Best Fitness Trackers Watch Malaysia
"For a more fruitful and insightful work out session"

Do you have fitness goals? If not, maybe this is a good reminder to start thinking about them. Fortunately for us, Fitness Trackers are now a common, affordable gadget to help you plan, measure, track and meet those goals. So here we’ll cover things to consider when buying a fitness tracker as well as our choices for the Top 10 best Fitness Trackers in Malaysia, available on Shopee & Lazada.

Fitness Trackers vs Smartwatch

Should you buy a fitness tracker or a smartwatch? In short, smartwatches can do a little bit more than fitness trackers but they cost a bit more. So, if you have a flexible budget, check also our list of best smartwatches. Good to survey every option before you buy.

How We Pick

  • Display: We chose a wide range of display resolution, from 124×206 to 354×306 and display size from 1.1” inches to 1.55” inches.
  • Screen: We favour AMOLED screen, but also included OLED and LCD. AMOLED is a good option when you want to balance costs with visuals.
  • Battery Life: It’s not easy to compare battery life since it depends heavily on the fitness programs you use. So, we check how long the battery can last on the lowest setting and pick between 7 to 21 days.
  • Water Resistance: Most of what we pick here are 5ATM.
  • Heart Rate Monitoring: All of our choices can track heart rate but the method of measurement may vary.
  • Sleep Tracking: All of our choices can track sleeping period and patterns like REM sleep, but the method of measurement may vary.
  • Fitness Tracking: What kind of exercises do you do? You’ll want a fitness tracker with companion apps and fitness programs tailored for the kind of activities that you do (running distance, swimming laps, etc).
  • OS Compatibility: All are compatible with iOS and Android.
  • Other Convenient Features: Some of our choices can do more than just typical fitness tracking like female menstruation tracking, spO2, fast charging, stress management as well as always on display.
  • Price & Budget: We chose low-end options below RM100, mid-range options between RM100 to RM200 and high-end option above RM300.

Lenovo S2 Fitness Tracker

Best Budget Fitness Tracker
Overview:
Pros: Affordable, good battery life and large display with added reminder features.
Cons: Only 3ATM water resistance, BT 4.2 and TFT LCD.
Specifications – Screen: TFT LCD | Display: 1.4” 240x240 | Water Resistance: 3ATM | OS Comp: iOS/Android | Battery Life: 15 days | Bluetooth: 4.2 | SpO2: No.
A crowd’s favourite in the fitness trackers market in Malaysia is the Lenovo S2, not least because of the large 1.4” display for those who prefer that size. Now 1.4” is pretty large so check against your wrist size first, okay? But a big plus point of this device is its affordability. With less than RM100, you’ll get a fitness tracker that tracks your heart rate 24H, with sleep and various fitness tracking including calories tracking, as well as some added reminders like incoming calls, message notifications and sedentary reminder. Though it looks like a smartwatch, it actually is more a fitness tracker or smart band, but we leave it to you to decide. The water resistance level is 3ATM which means you can probably take it swimming but do check from time to time. The downside of this fitness tracker though is that the display is only TFT LCD, and the Bluetooth version is 4.2, not 5.0. Overall, still really worth the price.

Aukey LS02 Fitness Tracker

Alternative To Lenovo S2
Overview:
Pros: Affordable, decent 1.4” LCD display, good battery life.
Cons: Only IPX6 water resistance.
Specifications – Screen: TFT LCD | Display: 1.4” 320x320 | Water Resistance: IPX6 | OS Comp: iOS/Android | Battery Life: 20 days | Bluetooth: 5.0 | SpO2: No.

If you’re looking for another budget fitness tracker other than Lenovo S2, the Aukey LS02 is another good choice. The difference though is that the Aukey LS02 has an arguably better battery life (260mAh, can last 20 days) but is only IPX6 wa terproof which means you won’t be able to take it for swimming or other water-based activities. The display is about the same size and is also TFT LCD but with a higher resolution (320x320). Connectivity-wise, there’s Bluetooth 5.0 and the companion app is the Aukey Fit App. There are 12 fitness tracking modes, heart rate sensor, sleep tracking, accelerator sensor and all the usual stuff. If you don’t mind the water resistance level and you like the Aukey design better, then choose this one over the Lenovo S2.

Fitbit Inspire 2 Fitness Tracker

Fitness Trackers with Best Companion App
Overview:
Pros: Great tracking capabilities, OLED display and 5ATM water resistant.
Cons: Have to pay companion app membership after 1 year, only okay battery life.
Specifications – Screen: OLED | Display: 1.4” 126x36 | Water Resistance: 5ATM | OS Comp: iOS/Android | Battery Life: 10 days | Bluetooth: 4.0.

The Fitbit Inspire 2 is a really slick smart band. Compared to our other choices, the Inspire 2 does not feel bulky and is really stylish (may feel heavy for some though). The screen is OLED which is the best you can expect at this price and the display is 1.4” 126x36 which is good for mobility. The plus point of this is not so much on the band itself (other than the OLED screen) but the companion App which is the Fitbit Premium. Track 24/7 heart activity levels, guided breathing sessions, food logging, cardio, sleep and even female health tracking. But super important to note that the Fitbit Premium is only free for 1 year with the purchase of this fitness tracker, after which you’ll have to pay membership plans which is quite expensive. Another downside is the battery life which lasts only 10 days on the lowest setting, so expect to have to charge frequently. But if you want accurate holistic data on your health, this is it.

Amazfit Band 7 Fitness Tracker

Fitness Tracker with Good Battery Life
Overview:
Pros: Display is not too big or small, great battery, fitness tracking variety and SpO2 sensor.
Cons: Plain design, slightly expensive.
Specifications – Screen: AMOLED | Display: 1.47” 198x368 | Water Resistance: 5ATM | OS Comp: iOS/Android | Battery Life: 18 days | SpO2: Yes.

Our choice for a mid-range fitness tracker includes the Amazfit Band 7 which offers great features at a reasonable price. The display is AMOLED 1.47” rectangular which is big enough to make navigation easy but not so big that it might be uncomfortable. For most people, this is not too big and not too small and the colours and visuals are also great for the price. The design though we think can be improved a bit la since it kinda looks plain. However, the fitness tracker has 5ATM water resistant and a great battery life that lasts up to 18 days on the lowest setting and comes with about 120 fitness tracking modes with its companion app and an SpO2 sensor to track blood oxygen level, alongside the usual stuff like sleep and heart rate tracking. Overall, a solid choice.

Huawei Band 6 Fitness Tracker

Best Mid-Range Fitness Tracker
Overview:
Pros: Cheaper than Amazfit Band 7, display is not too big or small, suitable for female, SpO2 sensor.
Cons: Plain design.
Specifications – Screen: AMOLED | Display: 1.47” 194x368 | Water Resistance: 5ATM | OS Comp: iOS/Android | Battery Life: 14 days | Bluetooth: 5.0 | SpO2: Yes.

A competitor to the Amazfit Band 7 and Honor Band 6 is the Huawei Band 6. In fact, the display is almost identical with this one also featuring AMOLED 1.47” display for easy navigation but not too big or heavy, though the design in plain. However, the battery life on the Huawei Band 6 is only up to 14 days on the lowest setting, whereas it’s 18 days for the Amazfit. Water resistance level is 5ATM which is standard and the Bluetooth version is 5.0. There are 96 fitness modes, sleep and heart rate tracking, menstrual cycle tracking and a SpO2 sensor for blood oxygen level. Also compared to the Honor Band 6, the Huawei Band 6 is slightly less thick, takes less time to charge, has weight tracking and irregular heart rate warnings.

Honor Band 6 Fitness Tracker

Cheaper Alternative to Huawei Band 6
Overview:
Pros: Cheaper than Huawei Band 6, display is not too big or small, suitable for female, SpO2 sensor.
Cons: Plain design, charges more slowly than Huawei Band 6.
Specifications – Screen: AMOLED | Display: 1.47” 194x368 | Water Resistance: 5ATM | OS Comp: iOS/Android | Battery Life: 14 days | Bluetooth: 5.0 | SpO2: Yes.

The Honor Band 6 is so similar to the Huawei Band 6 that many people sometimes confused between the two. The actual differences are very minor: both smart bands feature AMOLED 1.47” display that we think is the perfect size for navigation, both have 5ATM water resistance level, both feature SpO2 blood oxygen level tracking, sleep and menstrual cycle tracking and both last 14 days on the lowest setting. The difference is mainly in the companion app: the Huawei app feature 96 sports modes whereas the Honor Band 6 feature only 10 sports modes (though it’s not that big of a deal). But the Honor Band 6 offer wireless charging though it charges more slowly than Huawei Band 6. But the Honor Band 6 is about RM30-RM40 cheaper.

Summary

Fitness Trackers Buying Guide

Display & Screen

Most fitness trackers come in between 1.1” inches to 1.5” inches display. You will want to consider your preferred screen size. A fitness tracker with a screen that’s too large for you probably will slightly affect your workout. Screen-wise, there are mainly 3 types: LCD, AMOLED and OLED. OLED offers usually the best picture but is also more costly than LCD and AMOLED.

Speaking of display, you also want to see if you would like always-on display. Not many fitness trackers offer this feature.

Battery Life

It can be annoying to have to charge your fitness tracker every time before you go to the gym. So, you’ll want to pick those that can last between 7 to 21 days on the lowest setting. Of course, battery-draining features like GPS and various fitness programs will reduce this range, depending on how often you work out.

Water & Dust Resistance Levels

If you plan to take your fitness trackers underwater, for activities like swimming (not diving though!), then you’ll want one that has 5ATM water resistance level. The 5ATM denotes that the device can stand within an “atmosphere” (ATM) of up to 50 meters of water pressure underwater. This does not mean it can be submerged 50 meters underwater.

Heart Rate & Sleep Tracking

There are all kinds of heart rate and sleep measurement methods applied in fitness trackers. Some are more accurate than others. Most offer 24/7 monitoring.

Fitness Tracking

What kind of exercises or sports do you do most? Which area of your performance do you need tracking? Some simply need the timer in these watches while others would like to track swimming laps, running distance and others. Do check the companion apps for these fitness trackers before you buy.

OS Compatibility

Most fitness trackers are compatible with both iOS and Android ecosystems. Still, pay attention to this as well.

GPS

In Malaysia, only high-end fitness trackers provide a built-in GPS that allows you to track your location without relying on your smartphone. But other fitness trackers do sync with your smartphone to provide GPS service, though it’s your smartphone that provides the GPS. So, monitor constantly your phone’s battery life.

Price & Budget

You can find good budget Fitness Trackers under RM100 in Malaysia but most go for mid-range options which are usually priced between RM100 to RM200. Some higher-end options go for above RM300 but offer accurate and additional health tracking, fast charging or even wireless charging.

What Can You Do with A Fitness Tracker?

Fitness trackers are designed to track activity levels while you work out or even rest. Some features people often look out for are:

  • Heart rate monitoring
  • Sleep tracking
  • Tracking of periods of elevated physical stress (i.e., resting period between sets)
  • Sports tracking (i.e., swimming laps, running distance)
  • Blood oxygen levels
  • Calories burned (and consumed, if sync with other apps like MyFitnessPal)
  • Female menstrual cycles

Smartwatches on the other hand, also feature these with more added communication and task-tracking features like taking calls, displaying notification and others. But smartwatches are generally more expensive.
